Eligibility Criteria

North Lanarkshire Council (NLC) Development Support for the Social Enterprise Sector 2023-2025 Grant Terms and Conditions

North Lanarkshire Council has secured funding from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, over 2 years, 23/24, 24/25 to help support the growth and capacity building of social enterprises across North Lanarkshire.

The UK Shared Prosperity Fund is a central pillar of the UK government's Levelling Up agenda and provides £2.6 billion of funding for local investment by March 2025. North Lanarkshire has an allocation of £13.87 million. The Fund aims to improve pride in place and increase life chances across the UK investing in communities and place, supporting local business, and people and skills. Individuals and social enterprises who meet the eligibility criteria outlined below may access the relevant support provided by this service.

Eligibility Criteria

Growth Development Programme

  • The social enterprise (SE) must be trading in in North Lanarkshire, providing goods and/or services for the benefit of North Lanarkshire residents and/or communities.
  • The SE must be constituted in some form (for example: Community Interest Company (CIC), Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO), Company Limited by Guarantee).
  • The SE must have been trading for a minimum of 6 months and can evidence this via trading income (invoiced) or receipt of restricted grant funding.
  • The SE main contact must be over the age of 18
  • The SE main contact must be a UK resident with the right to work in the UK. Evidence may be required, for example a passport or letter from the Home Office
  • Certain Organisation types are not eligible to apply for the support, including those involved in: the sex industry; politics; religion; nude or semi-nude modelling or photography; multi-level marketing/pyramid selling or any organisations that may bring the Local Authority into disrepute.
  • Inspirent Ltd reserves the right to reject an organisation for support based on the criteria and eligibility outlined already.
  • If your support has been rejected and you would like to appeal, you can email enquiry@nlsocialenterprisehub.org and submit the details of the grounds of your appeal. We will then confirm receipt of your appeal and aim to reassess your application within 5 working days

Start-up Support

  • Start-up support is available to individuals considering or exploring the option of establishing a social enterprise which will trade from North Lanarkshire, and which will benefit North Lanarkshire residents and/or communities.
  • The social enterprise must not have commenced trading and/or been constituted.
  • The SE main contact must be over the age of 18
  • The SE main contact must be a UK resident with the right to work in the UK. Evidence may be required, for example a passport or letter from the Home Office
  • Individuals seeking start-up support must have developed an outline idea of the products/services the social enterprise will provide and have a broad idea of the beneficiaries of the services.
  • Certain Organisation types are not eligible to apply for the support, including those involved in: the sex industry; politics; religion; nude or semi-nude modelling or photography; multi-level marketing/pyramid selling or any organisations that may bring the Local Authority into disrepute.
